Senior Assurance Call

We are implementing a new service, where JASSI offers phone calls on a regular basis to Japanese senior citizens who live alone and/or have health concerns to ensure their well-being. Please contact us if you are interested.

Free Breast Cancer Screening

With the funding from Susan G. Komen, JASSI, in partnership with KCS (Korean Community Services), is accepting mammogram screening appointments for uninsured women who are 40 and older and living in NYC (Bronx, Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn and Staten Island).

“The impact of Public Charge on the Qualification of Staying in the US”

JASSI invites a speaker from NYC Mayor’s Office Immigration Affairs to talk about the impact of Public Charge on the qualification of staying in the US.

Do you have questions such as….

  • Can you apply for a Green Card even you are on Medicaid?
  • Is there any impact on a parent’s Green Card application if a minor child who has US citizenship were receiving SNAP?
  • Is it better not to receive any of the governmental benefit?

Health Insurance Marketplace

The Open Enrollment period for the 2019 health insurance will begin on November 1, 2018. In New York State, it will run through January 31, 2019. If you need assistance in enrolling/renewing health coverage, please contact us so our Certified Application Counselor may be able to assist you!
If you qualify for Public Health Insurance Programs or Special Enrollment Period, you may still be able to enroll in health coverage. Please go to your state Marketplace website if applicable, or go to HealthCare.Gov and select your state.

JASSI will continue the partnership in 2018 with the New York State Department of Health Cancer Service Program Queens and ScanVan and accept appointments for a clinical breast exam and a pap smear/pelvic exam* for uninsured women who are 40 and older, living in NYC (Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island, and Bronx).

  1. Cancer Service Program Queens (Queens residents only)
    The exams are conducted at Jackson Heights Family Health Center every Thursday at 1pm. After the clinical breast exam, a mammogram is conducted on a different day at New York Hospital Queens. The FIT and colonoscopy are done as needed.

  2. ScanVan (NYC residents)
    You will have a mammogram in a van and a pap test and colonoscopy will be done on a different day as needed.
    For more information on dates and locations, please call us.

*You do not need to do pap test if you did it in the past 3 years and got negative (good result). If you have done pap with HPV test and got negative, you do not need to do it for five years. Yet, you can make appointment for breast exam that needs to be done every year.

If you have health coverage, you will have to use your insurance.

  2. Senior Program
    Provides case assistance, information and referral services, social and/or cultural events, and seminars for people over 60 years old. For inquiry and registration, please call 212-442-1541 ext. 1. or email at mkatayama@jassi.org.
  3. Caregiver Support Program (funded by NYC Department for the Aging)
    Provides services to those who care people over 60 years old. The services include supportive counseling, case management, home care and benefit referrals, respite services, supplemental services, and support group. For inquiry, please call 212-442-1541 ext. 1 or email at mkatayama@jassi.org.
  4. Community Outreach Program
    Hosts seminars and workshops for Japanese-speaking individuals in the New York City area. The past seminars and workshops include Visa, Citizenship, Health Insurance, Home Care, Living Will, and more! For inquiry, please call 212-442-1541 ext.1 or email at info@jassi.org.
